Legends & Lore Markers
Does your community have a great piece of folklore that should be shared? Our Legends & Lore® Roadside Marker Grant Program can help put those stories in the spotlight! First launched in 2015, Legends & Lore is designed to promote cultural tourism and commemorate legends and folklore as part of cultural heritage. Now we’re expanding this marker program nationwide.
Legends & Lore markers commemorate everything from tall tales to intriguing characters rooted in local lore. The program recognizes that folklore generally describes traditional customs, tales, sayings, dances or art forms of a community shared by word of mouth or observation. Whether based in fiction or truth, folklore comprises the things people believe, say, do and make. Folklore can be expressed in numerous ways, including as legends, folktales, myths and superstitions.
