Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a food item qualifies for the Hungry for History marker program?

A food item must meet the specific criteria to qualify for its own Hungry for History marker. To be eligible, the food must be a prepared, ready-to-eat dish, such as an entrée or dessert. The dish must contain at least two different ingredients. The dish must also be historically significant to the greater community or beyond and have origins that pre-date 1960. In addition, the food item must still be eaten today in some form. Brand names such as Hershey’s or Kraft do not qualify.
