Franklin W. Lutes (1840-1915) was a Union soldier during the Civil War and recipient of the Medal of Honor. His citation reads:
The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Franklin W. Lutes, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 31 March 1865, while serving with Company D, 111th New York Infantry, in action at Petersburg, Virginia, for capture of flag of 41st Alabama Infantry (Confederate States of America), together with the Color Bearer and one of the color guard.
