Fly Creek Area Historical Society Marker Unveilings

Sunday, July 14th, 2019 10:00am to 3:00pm
Fly Creek Grange: 208 Cemetery Rd., Fly Creek, New York

The Fly Creek Area Historical Society will host its annual summer BBQ on Sunday, July 14, during which four new roadside markers will be unveiled. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. at the historic Fly Creek Grange Hall. The dedication ceremony will take place at approximately noon.

Three of those markers are from the NYS Historic Marker Grant Program. They commemorate North Tin Shop, Sprague School and the Fork Factory. One marker is from the Legends & Lore® grant program and commemorates David Shipman, a local resident who is said to have inspired the Leatherstocking Tales character Natty Bumppo. The markers are being unveiled ahead of installation.

Food and refreshments will be available during the event. The program will also include the unveiling of a 19th century oil painting of Diantha Child. The Fly Creek Museum will be open during the event.
