WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2024

On August 18, 1824, residents of the village of Amber and the surrounding community in Onondaga County, New York, established the Amber Religious Society. That September, the society resolved to build a church in the village. The new church was “dedicated to the Service of God” on December 26, 1825 (Minutes of the Amber Religious Society). The building cost $1,300 dollars to construct and funds were raised by members of the society. In 1866, the hill on which the church sat was lowered eight feet and the church was moved onto a new stone foundation on the site.

As of 2024, the Amber Church continues to serve the community as a house of worship.
