The Bath & Hammondsport Railroad began operation in 1875. The Depot here was constructed two years later in 1877. Local wine industry pioneer Charles Champlin was among the project leaders. A mention of its construction was in the June 13, 1877 edition of The Hammondsport Herald:

The new depot of the B. & H. at this place is nearly completed. It is a neat little building and when the paint is added will be all right.

The B&H railway displaced a former stage coach line which ran between Hammondsport and Bath.
