Moses C. Crapsey was born in 1802 in Madison County, NY. As a young man, he moved westward and eventually settled in Niagara County to start a family. Moses purchased land and established a farm here in ca. 1837. The farm included orchards, large areas of croplands, and a dairy operation. In the 1860s and 1870s at least, it also included a picnic grove known as Crapsey’s Grove which hosted numerous community gatherings.
