CURRIERS STATION
EST. 1880 ON TONAWANDA VALLEY
RAILROAD RUNNING FROM ATTICA
TO CURRIERS CORNERS, LATER
EXTENDED TO ARCADE. BECAME
ARCADE & ATTICA RR 1917.
WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2026

In 1852, the Attica and Allegheny Valley Railroad was formed to build a line from Attica to Arcade in Wyoming County, New York. A predecessor to the Tonawanda Valley Railroad, it went bankrupt and was foreclosed after only partially grading the route between the two communities.

The Tonawanda Valley Railroad opened in 1880. This roughly 20-mile narrow-gauge line connected Attica with the hamlet of Curriers Corners in the Town of Java. Curriers Station was established in Curriers Corners to serve the Tonawanda Valley Railroad. The line was later successfully extended south to the Village of Arcade.

Facing financial difficulties, the railroad was acquired by the Buffalo, Attica, and Arcade Railroad in 1894. In 1904, the railroad was sold to the Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad. When reports suggested the route from Attica to Arcade was to be abandoned, local business leaders, farmers, and other supporters raised funds to buy the former Tonawanda Valley Railroad and established the Arcade and Attica Railroad in 1917 to continue operation of the route.

In 1957, the northern portion from Attica to North Java was abandoned. As of 2026, the Arcade and Attica Railroad continues to operate as a heritage railroad, offering excursion train rides from Arcade Station to Curriers Station, preserving this piece of local transportation history.
