Fair Mount Cemetery in the village of Red Creek in Wayne County, New York, contains burials dating to as early as circa 1819, coinciding with the early years of development of the surrounding area. The cemetery was officially incorporated in 1887. Those interred here include veterans of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, and later wars, including the Spanish-American War, both World Wars, and the Korean War.
Revolutionary War veteran William Dusenbery is among those buried in Fair Mount. In May 1776, Dusenbery enlisted in the Continental Army. He served in the quartermaster department as a wagoner for a three-year term. Shortly after this, he enlisted again, serving for the remainder of the war, first as a wagoner and then as an army guide for the last 18 months until being discharged at West Point at the close of the war. Dusenbery’s grave marker in Fair Mount states that he died June 18, 1853 at nearly 93 years old.
As of 2024, Fair Mount continues in its more than 200-year role as the final resting place for members of the Red Creek community.
