Hiram Bartlett (1821-1891) was a prominent businessman in the town of Russell in St. Lawrence County, New York. He served as a town supervisor and worked as a miller and dealer in flour and feed. He also served as master mason of Russell Lodge, No. 566 in the 1870s. During his career, Mr. Bartlett owned and operated a gristmill on Grass River in Russell. According to the 1878 History of St. Lawrence Co., New York, published by L.H. Everts & Co., he had erected his three-story mill in 1863 to replace an earlier mill that had burned down, which he had been in operation of since 1856.

Mr. Bartlett passed away in his town of Russell residence reportedly of pneumonia in March 1891. He is buried in Balsam Cemetery in the town. A notice of his death published in the March 11, 1891 St. Lawrence Plaindealer noted that he “was respected for his honesty and benevolence.”
