Horatio Seymour was a two-term governor of New York, serving 1853-1855 and 1863-1865. He was also as leading figure in the Democratic party and was nominated in 1868 to run against Ulysses S. Grant in the Presidential election. He lost the election by a margin of approximately 300,000 votes. Seymour was born in the hamlet of Pompey Hill, NY on May 31, 1810 and died in Utica, NY on February 12, 1886. He is buried with his wife Mary Bleeker Seymour in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, NY.
