WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2024
IOOF is a non-political, non-sectarian fraternal order founded in 1819 in Maryland. As an organization, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows aims to provide a framework that promotes personal and social development. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Wikipedia, accessed 8 May 2024).
According to the Town of Rose Historian, the Oddfellows played an important part in the cohesive nature of the Town of Rose. In North Rose especially, being a very rural community, it brought comradery and a social element to the residents. Bay Shore Lodge No. 606 was instituted in North Rose in 1892. Later, the Utopia Rebekah Lodge, No. 400 for women also held meetings here.
Built of cast concrete block, the Hall is trapezoidal in shape with round front corners. At the time it was built, the Hall was considered very contemporary with its rough cast stone and sleek glass front window panels (Building-Structure Inventory Form, New York State Parks Division for Historic Preservation, 1974). Lodge minutes show that Bay Shore Lodge took out a mortgage of $2,800 to pay for the structure.
In 1974, the building was the home of the North Rose Pharmacy. As of 2024, North Rose United Methodist Church utilized the former hall for church offices and a thrift store.
