In the hamlet of Blockville, located in the town of Harmony in Chautauqua County, New York, stands a historical marker in commemoration of Israel Carpenter, an individual that had an early influence on the development of the surrounding community. The marker stands at the Blockville Union Burying Ground nearby the grave of Israel and his wife Hannah Carpenter.

Israel relocated here from Rensselaer County after acquiring a large amount of land in 1811. He worked as a farmer, living on the same homestead until his death in 1871. He also built and operated a gristmill and sawmill in the community. In 1828, Israel gave land for use as the Blockville Union Burying Ground. In addition to giving land for the cemetery, he gave land in 1830 for a local school to be built and in 1850, he gave land for the Methodist Church and for a new schoolhouse.

Israel passed away on September 28, 1871 and Hannah on October 4 of the same year. They left behind many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
