In the town of Greenfield in Saratoga County, sits a reminder of an important freight and passenger hub in the town’s history. Kings Station was built in 1887 by the Adirondack Railway, a line running from Saratoga Springs to North Creek that provided a link to the Adirondack region. The railway was used to ship goods to and from area farmers and merchants to larger metropolitan areas, aiding in the growth of the local economy. In addition, the railway allowed for faster and more reliable passenger travel into the Adirondacks.

In 1889, the Adirondack Railway was acquired by the Delaware and Hudson. Kings Station was in operation until closing in 1933. After this, it was relocated just down the road from its original site along the tracks and in 1990, was restored by the Greenfield Historical Society. The former station building now sits in Kings Station Park alongside a refurbished D&H caboose. The historical society offers tours of the station and caboose, and the nearby rail line is operated by Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway, a heritage railway that runs scenic excursions along the tracks.
