In the town of Newfield in Tompkins County, New York stands a former one room schoolhouse known as Kellogg’s Corners School, or District No. 18. The school was originally built around 1883 on Vankirk Road in Newfield. It was in use until 1939 when area schools consolidated into the Newfield Central School District. In May 1939, the school trustees sold the building to the Kellogg’s Corners Home Bureau Unit for one dollar and the building was used for many years by the Kellogg’s Corners Arts and Crafts Club. In 1992, the Newfield Historical Society moved the former school from Vankirk Road roughly two miles north to its Main Street location on Newfield Central School property. The historical society has continued to preserve the building and it remains a proud landmark of the community.
