Pennsylvania native Jonathan Wainright built Overbrook as a summer home in 1902. In 1905 Wainright’s boat Chip won the American Power Boat Challenge Cup, also known as the Gold Challenge Cup, on Chippewa Bay, St. Lawrence River. He won again in 1906. In 1928, the camp was sold and opened as a boys athletic camp in 1929. With strong ties to St. Lawrence University, it was renamed Camp Laurent. The camp was purchased in 1953 by its present owners for use as a congregational camp, which it remains as of 2020.
