In 1872, the Lake Ontario Shore Railroad opened a depot in Red Creek, marking the beginning of rail service in northern Wayne County, New York. The railroad ran along Lake Ontario, connecting the city of Oswego and Niagara Falls. By 1874, the short-lived Lake Ontario Shore Railroad had been acquired by the Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburg Railroad.
In 1889, the Red Creek depot was destroyed in a fire attributed to a defective coal stove in the passenger waiting room. The depot was quickly rebuilt and enlarged. In 1913, the Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburg Railroad was officially acquired by New York Central, which closed the Red Creek depot in 1959. The depot building later became a private home.
