By 1850, a German protestant church had been established in the community of Alexandria, located in Campbell County, Kentucky. The congregation was German speaking and church services were conducted in the German language. By the turn of the 20th century, a new building was required to accommodate the growing congregation of St. Paul’s Church. The new church was completed and dedicated on Sunday, June 23, 1901. German would continue to be used at St. Paul’s Church until July 1918, when the language was officially dropped from church services and English was then exclusively used.
Over 175 years, St. Paul’s Church has been a cornerstone of the German American community in northern Kentucky, speaking to the area’s German heritage. As of 2025, it continues to serve Alexandria and the surrounding community.
