From the grant application:

Trickem is more than a legend. It was the name, albeit briefly of a small community. Sources say that because of the gunfights and questionable activities that took place at the local saloon, the area, which was originally known as Sanderson Town, earned the name Trickem. Even after the post office was formed in 1882, and the postmaster registered the name of the town as Hatton, many resident still insisted on calling their community Trickem. Mail was actually delivered to both Hatton and Trickem from the post office. It wasn’t until the late 1950’s that the name finally died away. However, descendants of many of the older residents still recall the stories their parent and grandparents handed down about the wild and rowdy days of Trickem.
