The Rochester, Syracuse, and Eastern (RS&E) Electric Railroad connected the Village of Jordan with local communities as well as Syracuse and Rochester at a time when travel on the Erie Canal was waning, providing a much-needed commuting service. Locally known as “the trolley”, the station opened for service on December 18,1909, occupying a prime location in the Village of Jordan (Syracuse Post-Standard, December 18, 1909). The RS&E also hauled freight and cargo in addition to its passenger services.

The RS&E passed into transportation history on June 28, 1931 when it ended trolley service. According to the July 3, 1931 edition of the Cayuga Chief, Eastern Greyhound Line buses were in the village the following morning, taking the place of the trolleys. Purchased in 1933, the station reopened as Taylor’s Super Service in April 1934. The owners had relocated the building from its original location to one on the corner of South Main and Mechanic Streets (Marcellus Observer, September 13, 1933).
