Suffragist, philanthropist, and community leader, Dr. Cordelia A. Greene (1831-1905), head of the Castile Sanitarium in Castile, NY, helped to organize the Castile Political Equality Club in 1892, serving as the first president of the club. The club formed in the parlors of the Castile Sanitarium, and held meetings in the sanitarium’s gymnasium. Greene was also active with the Wyoming County Political Equality Club and was made an honorary president of the county club in 1901.
In 1902, Greene helped to establish the Cordelia Greene Library on Main St in Castile. Greene donated the land on which the library was built, on a site opposite the Castile Sanitarium.
