New Opportunity for Legends & Lore State Partners To Apply for Their Own Marker Grants

Among the newest developments with the Legends & Lore program, State Partners will now have the opportunity to directly apply for marker grants in 2021.

This year, the Pomeroy Foundation will accept up to five Legends & Lore marker applications submitted by a State Partner on their organization’s own behalf each grant round.

“The Pomeroy Foundation is excited about this change to the program,” said Deryn Pomeroy, Director of Strategic Initiatives. “Some State Partners had expressed interest in being able to apply for marker grants on their own. It’s a great idea and we hope this additional opportunity for partners will help to welcome even more ideas for Legends & Lore markers in 2021.”

State Partner applications will be reviewed by one of our two Legends & Lore folklore consultants, Stephen or Sarah. State Partners will not review their own application(s). Folklore consultant responsibilities will include:

  • Providing initial application thoughts and feedback to the State Partner
  • Suggesting revisions (if necessary) to conform to Pomeroy Foundation marker inscription standards
  • Completing evaluation forms to be reviewed by Pomeroy Foundation Trustees for grant decisions

The State Partner’s organization name will continue to be listed on the credit line for all Legends & Lore markers granted in their respective state.
