Town Supervisor, Daniel Webster Jenkins once lived in the Town of Central Bridge, NY. Born nearby in 1863, Jenkins played an active role the development Central Bridge and quickly rose to prominence in the community. He was employed as ticket agent for the Delaware & Hudson R.R. and oversaw the operation of the railroad station in Central Bridge. Jenkins also served as the Schoharie Town Supervisor for a number of years. As Town Supervisor one of his major accomplishments was recorded in the 1895 Proceedings of the Board of Supervisors, based on a petition which read in part:

…to establish a fire District in the unincorporated village of Central Bridge, Schoharie County New York, and to authorize such district to procure a supply of water and to purchase apparatus for the extinguishment of fire therein, and to rend a purchase suitable buildings for the keeping and storing of the same…”

For his efforts, the D.W. Jenkins Hose Company was formed and named in his honor. Sadly, Jenkins passed away at the age of 55 on June 15, 1901. His obituary from the June 18, 1901 edition of The Daily Times reads:

Daniel W. Jenkins, a prominent citizen, died Saturday morning of dropsy. He was fifty-five years old. His funeral will be held to-morrow morning. Rev. E.L. Wade of Johnstown and Rev. E.L. Tucker of Central Bridge officiating. The interment will be at Schoharie. Mr. Jenkins was Supervisor of the town of Schoharie at the time of his death and had held the office for a number years. He was also station agent of the Delaware and Hudson at Central Bridge and a dealer in coal and lumber.
