FIRST RAILROAD
THE BUFFALO & NIAGARA FALLS
RAILWAY, THE FIRST WESTERN
NEW YORK STEAM RAILWAY, CUT
THROUGH DENSE FOREST HERE
BY MILITARY ROAD IN 1836.
WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2013

Shortly after the completion of the Erie Canal, the technological innovation of trains began to emerge. One of the first Western New York railways, the Buffalo and Niagara Falls Railway, cut through dense woods by the old military road near this site in 1836.
