Gorham Mill once stood at this site. This water powered grist mill was built by Levi Benton Jr. around 1809. In 1868, the village of Gorham experienced a devastating fire that destroyed several buildings, including Gorham Mill. The mill was rebuilt and resumed operation sometime after 1869. In 1941, a fire broke out in the engine room of the mill. The blaze quickly consumed the old building, severely injured the owner, and damaged surrounding buildings.
