Local resident Matthias Berry’s home once stood on this site. Originally born in Rensselaer County, Berry eventually made his way to Onondaga County where he worked as builder in the Pompey and Fabius area. In 1840 Berry was commissioned as a Captain of Artillery in the 98th Regiment of Infantry of the State of New York Militia. By 1899 he had died in Pompey.
