WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2021

John Avery Nichols (1807-1885) was a prominent developer of this part of the village, located near his large farm. In approximately 1862 he mapped out this land to be set aside as a public park. Nichols had purchased 50 acres for this purpose. After his death in 1885, the land was broken up and owned by a number of different parties. It eventually came into the possession of a Mr. Seeley around 1906. He was the final owner until he sold the land to village for the purpose of a community park in 1919.
