Born in 1869, Jessie Belle Rittenhouse exhibited a natural talent and aptitude for writing and composing poetry. During her lifetime she used these skills to become an accomplished author, educator, reporter, and literary critic. Rittenhouse’s legacy is not only demonstrated though the large volume of published works that she produced, but also evident in her role as the co-founder of the Poetry Society of America, which still exists today.
