WILLIAM G. POMEROY FOUNDATION 2020

Brevet Brigadier General Hiram Duryea, who served in the Civil War as leader of the Duryea Zouves, among other units, purchased the land on which the Hedges now sits in 1880. In 1882 a New York City newspaper noted that he had built a camp there. In 1921 the Collins family, including Richard Collins, purchased the Duryea camp and converted it into an inn, which opened that year as The Hedges. As of 2020, The Hedges at Blue Mountain Lake continues to serve as an Adirondack landmark that has provided family fun for generations.
