On March 27, 1839, the Red Creek Union Academy in the village of Red Creek, NY was incorporated “for the purpose of establishing, maintaining and conducting a seminary of learning, for the education of persons of both sexes.” According to Grace M. Frost, former historian for the village of Red Creek, a wooden structure was built on Church Street as early as 1837 for use as an academy. An 1857 letter published in the Onondaga Gazette stated that a new brick addition to the academy was nearing completion. This brick addition was destroyed by a fire and was rebuilt circa 1860. In 1867, the academy was renamed Red Creek Union Seminary. The seminary offered courses in classic languages, math, science and art. In 1895, the seminary became a public school, and in 1904 it housed the Red Creek High School. This served as the location of Red Creek High School until 1926, when a new high school building was constructed in a different location.
