Brandtville takes its name from the owner of the plot, I. Brant, who acquired the property between 1856 and 1879. The early published references to “Brandtville” show up in local newspapers ca. 1900. The deed on the property on which the marker is placed dates to 1904. Originally, this neighborhood was outside the incorporation limits of the city of Saratoga Springs. Census records show a predominately Black population, many of whom were laborers for the surrounding Saratoga Springs community.
