In 1909, Andrew Case, one of the founders of Case Brothers Cutlery of Little Valley, New York, established a deer farm at his home on Erie Street in Little Valley, referred to by the name Robins Roost. On his farm, deer were raised for their antlers, which were shed and regrown naturally each year. The antlers were used to make knife handles for the cutlery company.
Begun by brothers John, Jean, William, and Andrew Case around 1898, Case Brothers Cutlery was officially incorporated in 1900. They manufactured razors and knives, utilizing the trademark “Tested XX” which came to define the quality of their blades. They sold direct to retailers, with some of the Case brothers working as traveling salesmen for part of the year, including Andrew.
Andrew passed away in 1940, followed by Sara in 1941. His obituary published in the January 18, 1940 Cattaraugus County Hub noted that he was still working in the cutlery business until one year before his passing. In 1947, their property in Little Valley was purchased by the American Legion Post 531. As of 2025, the former Robins Roost continues as to serve as the home of Post 531.
